New Moon in Cancer: A Time to Widen Our Definition of Family

New Moon in Cancer or Moon Child

New Moon in Cancer or Moon Child

Quick reminder Mercury is retrograde now through July 20th.

July 8th both the Sun and the Moon will be in the sign of Cancer reminding us of the family come from but also that we belong to the family of humankind. What better way to be reminded that we are all connected than through music.

Since 2004 Play For Change has been going around the world recording musicians.

“The project started in 2004 with the organization’s self-described goal to “inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music”. The creators of the project, Mark Johnson and Enzo Buono, traveled around the world to places including New Orleans, Barcelona, South Africa, India, Nepal, the Middle East and Ireland. Using mobile recording equipment, the duo recorded local musicians performing the same song, interpreted in their own style. Among the artists participating or openly involved in the project are Vusi Mahlasela, Louis Mhlanga, Clarence Bekker, Tal Ben Ari (Tula), Bono, Keb’ Mo’, David Broza, Manu Chao and Grandpa Elliott.” Wikipedia

Stephanie Austin writes this: New Moon in Cancer symbolizing how we ultimately learn that we are a child of the universe, and that we all belong to the family of humankind. The word “matter” comes from the Sanskrit root for “mother”; Cancer also reminds us of the importance of honoring matter as mother, that all aspects of the material world are sacred, including our physical body and the Earth on which we live. As the first water sign, Cancer represents the development and monitoring of our emotional body. Feelings provide essential feedback, signaling what is healthy or harmful. When we disregard our feelings, we lose the vital information they offer, and we succumb to overeating, overspending, and overworking. This new moon calls us to widen our definition of family and further develop our emotional literacy. For valuable tips, visit

Willow Healing RX for 9/11 Anniversary

Leaf Filtered Sunlight

The Star Story for now is still the Virgo Sun who now has been joined by the lovely lady planet Venus, while lucky  Jupiter in Taurus tines the pair. In this pattern the Earth signs are highlighted and doing a happy cha-cha.

Practicality prevail. It is time to clean up after the chaos of this Summer’s grand square. We won’t get too much breathing room but people will listen when you shout ” time out!” Use this positive pause to balance the check book, straighten up your desk or  mop up after the many storms we all experienced. You will be making room for the creativity of the Pisces /Virgo Full Moon the day after the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Who knows magical mystery might be reveled.

Last July I wrote: “breath in green light. I do believer the leaves change sun light in a way that is essential for our well-being.  …  Think of it as a salad for your soul. “

Recently I heard a lovely *lady ethnobotanist and mystic explain that there are real healing properties of leaf filtered light!

“Stand beneath a willow to heal grief”, she suggested.  Perhaps a walk by a quiet stream might be a healthy and healing way to commemorate 9/11/2011. Could be the soul salve we all need as we remember all that has been lost.

*Diana Beresford-Kroeger, a botanist, medical biochemist and self-defined “renegade scientist,” brings together ethnobotany, horticulture, spirituality and alternative medicine to reveal a path toward better stewardship of the natural world.  surrounded by her research garden filled with rare and endangered species. *Diana Beresford-Kroeger can be heard on Carolyn Casey’s Visionary Activist Radio program for September 1, 2011 as heard on KPFA

Put On Your Virgo Robes

Put On Your Virgo Robes

The Sun in Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept.23) is  time for discernment, separating the wheat from the chaff or being  overly anxious.  Above all, staying healthy is our prime-directive. Put on our Virgo robes and look carefully at what we are choosing to serve. Virgo rules digestion and absorption.

We are being asked to choose wisely what truths we are willing to swallow!  Saturn, the sign of restriction and worry, was in Virgo at the time of the Jonestown Massacre. But now Saturn is in Libra, sign of balanced scales. Her beauty and order  is available  to us all if we are willing to make the sacrifices of ego and special interest.

I have to stop here and reflect that each of us, in one way or another, may be drinking the Kool Aid. We are attached to some belief that can be harmful. These everyday addictions are human nature; that is why we need the guidance of  the Goddess Virgo, the shepherdess, who leads her flock to green pastures and makes them lie down by still water…

NOW is the time to listen to Nature’s refreshing story of  balance, connection and truth!
