Shine and Shadow

The silver balls this time of year are not just there for decoration. They also light up the dark and offer an opportunity to reflect. Winter and the end of the year are often times to take stock and reflect on your life.  Now is the time to think about how you fit into the grand scheme of things.  On December 5th at 9:36am there is a New Moon in the Sign of Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter the Story telling God. This weekend would be a good time  to tell yourself the story of 2010 and create an ending that will come out the way you want it to. If the struggles have been overwhelming, try reframing the story to be about a person who did her best in the face of adversity. To focus on the light within the dark, writing a gratitude list can be a valuable practice. Put yourself at the top of the list. Maybe you are a light for someone else and didn’t even know it.

All these “re” words are no accident; our old friend Mercury is going retrograde Dec. 10th and Uranus changed directions five days earlier. Both planets deal with communications and electronics. The push-me-pull-me of two planets changing directions can be a double whammy to everything electrical. Back-up and save everything. Be kind to machines because we are dependent on them more than we know. Last December, all planets were direct and it was a mad, mad world for over two weeks. Try to be patient and enjoy this year’s slower pace.

Another opportunity to reflect is coming on the Winter Solstice. It is the longest night of the year when the Sun changes directions and the days begin to grow longer. This year, December 21st it also a Full Moon AND a total eclipse of the Moon. We are offered the rare chance to see the shadow of the Earth as it passes between the Sun and the Moon. Facing the shadow allows us to see what is hidden. Perhaps we have hidden some of our strengths because we were worried that they could become unruly. This is the time of the year to let those dormant assets shine. Alternatively, putting the ghost of Christmas past to rest may be a worthwhile option to take during the eclipse.
